Privacy Policy

Last updated October 2026

Nothing you record is sent to us.

MeMos (“the App”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains its data practices on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch — which are, in short, that nothing leaves your devices unless you choose to share it.

Data collection

The App does not collect or transmit any personal data.

  • We do not collect any information about you, your device, or your use of the App
  • We do not use analytics, tracking, advertising, or telemetry services
  • We do not operate any servers, and the App makes no network requests of its own
  • We do not use cookies or similar tracking technologies
  • We do not sell or share any information with third parties

Recording: the light stays on

MeMos records only while its recording screen is on and showing. This is deliberate: it lets the people around you see that they are being recorded, the way the light on a camera does.

  • While you are recording, the screen does not lock by itself.
  • Locking your iPhone or iPad, or leaving the App, stops the recording and saves it.
  • The App never records or listens in the background or with the screen locked.
  • Each recording is limited to 90 minutes. The App also stops and saves a recording when the device is nearly out of storage or battery.

Apple Watch

The MeMos app for Apple Watch records in the same way: only while the App is open on your wrist. Lowering your wrist dims the screen without stopping the recording; leaving the App stops it and keeps what was recorded.

Each recording you keep is sent from your watch directly to your paired iPhone, using Apple’s own connection between the two devices. It is not sent to us or to any server we operate. Once your iPhone has the recording, it is removed from the watch. Your iPhone sends your watch only what it needs to show the cassette: the App’s colour theme and the code number each recording was given.

Speech recognition

The App transcribes your recordings so you can read them back and search what you said. A recording is transcribed after you finish it, or after you bring audio into the App. Nothing is transcribed while you are recording.

Transcription is performed entirely on your device. The App requires on-device speech recognition and has no network fallback: if a device cannot transcribe without sending audio elsewhere, the App makes no transcript rather than upload the recording. Your audio does not leave your device to be transcribed.

Names and tags

The App can name a recording and suggest tags for it from its transcript. This happens on your device. On devices with Apple Intelligence, the App uses Apple’s on-device language model to suggest tags; the transcript is not sent anywhere to do this.

Local data storage

Your recordings, transcripts, names, tags, reminders and artwork are stored on your device, inside the App. They are not sent to us or to any external service. They are included in your device’s own backups if you back up your device to iCloud or to a computer.

Deleting a MeMo deletes its recordings and artwork from your device, and removes any calendar event the App made for it. Deleting the App deletes everything it has stored.

Calendar

If you ask the App to put a revisit in your calendar, it creates an event in the calendar account you choose, using the calendar permission you grant. The event is titled with the MeMo’s name and carries its code number and a link that opens it in the App; it contains no audio or transcript. If that calendar syncs with a service such as iCloud or Google, the event syncs with it, the same as any event you add yourself. The App never contacts those services directly.

Camera and photos

The App uses the camera only when you take a photo for a MeMo’s case. When you choose a picture from your photo library instead, Apple’s photo picker gives the App only the picture you chose; the App cannot see the rest of your library. It saves to your photo library only when you choose to save a photo or a video there.

Importing audio

When you share audio into MeMos from another app, such as Voice Memos, the App keeps a copy on your device so it can play and transcribe it. Nothing about the import is sent anywhere.

Sharing

The App sends nothing on its own. When you choose to share a MeMo, the App makes a video on your device — a picture of the cassette, the MeMo’s name, and the audio of the tracks you picked — and hands it to the share sheet, where you choose where it goes. Shared videos carry the words “Made with MeMos,” and where the app you share to accepts a message, a link to MeMos on the App Store is added to it. Once shared, a video is subject to the privacy practices of the app or service you sent it with and of the people you sent it to.

Notifications

The App uses notifications to bring a MeMo back at the time you set, to tell you an import or a video is ready, and similar. These are scheduled on your device; no notification is sent from a server.

Third-party services

The App does not integrate with any analytics platforms, advertising networks, or third-party SDKs. It uses only Apple’s own frameworks, which run on your device.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted within the App or on our website. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
